How to Choose Someone to Pump or Repair Your Septic Tank
License, a real truck, and an honest look at the lid beat a five-star widget and a ‘lowest prices’ ad.
You are hiring a licensed private sewage pumping contractor to open a tank in your yard. The useful checks are boring, and they work.
What to ask
- Are you licensed to pump in Illinois? The Kane County health department (and the state code behind it) requires pumping and hauling by a licensed contractor. Ours is License #055-044513.
- Will you open the tank and tell me what you see? A pump-and-run with no look at baffles and water level is a missed inspection.
- Is this pumping, a clogged line, or a field? Those are three jobs. Anyone who quotes a field replacement without looking is selling.
- Who shows up? A tanker and a crew that has done this address-type before. Photos from recent jobs beat stock.
What not to overweight
- A review widget you cannot take with you if the marketing vendor changes.
- Ads that say “lowest prices around.”
- A 13-item menu that treats leach-field install the same as a routine pump. The work is not equal.
